Nail techs whats the difference between solar nails and reg. and gel nail/?

which is better?Nail techs whats the difference between solar nails and reg. and gel nail/?
Solar nails are usually overlays over your natural nails and do not yellow in the sun or in a tanning bed. Gel nails are not as strong, yet, give a glass-like finish and are a little thinner. It all depends on how hard you are on your hands and if you are in the sun a lot. The appearance of gel nails is slightly more appealing to me.Nail techs whats the difference between solar nails and reg. and gel nail/?
I would just add that with gels, they are very hard to do ';right.'; Harder than acrylic. A lot of places do gels but for instance I just had to go have a set filed down (for another $10) because the girl who did them had made them so thick and too big. They looked like piano keys, I swear. Also make sure they do not just give you powdered acrylic nails with a layer of gel on top, and change you for ';gel';-a common scam at the cheap nail shops. Gel nails are not mixed, they are already ';gel';.

Shop around and see what kind of work they do on gels.
Artificial Fingernails: Tip Overlay, the Solar Nail and Gel

A Woman's Guide to Artificial Nails!

Each day, millions of women use a variety of methods to improve their outer appearance. From hair to cosmetics to fingernails, the beauty industry has taken great strides in offering top of the line products to female beauty consumers.Within the nail industry, many women opt for solar nails, gelnailsor acrylic nail tip overlayin lieu of the traditional manicure. While the cost is significantly different for each service,we find many female beauty consumers are not even sure what they are purchasing in their nailcare beauty regimen.

Acrylic Nails are the most common ';fake';, or artificial, nail product used by the female beauty consumer. With the tip placed on the nail bed, a combination polymer mix is placedover theartificial tip creating a smooth fingernail appearance. As the nail grows, the tip grows with the nail, resulting in a potential for breakage at some point. To void breakage, the artifician tip overlay must be ';filled'; once every two weeks. With tip overlays, the nail can be painted any color chosen by the female beauty client.

From this type of artificial fingernail tip overlay, the female beauty consumer can opt for an upgrade in quality, although more expensive, and obtain what isknown as a ';solar'; nail. Using a combination polymer mix, the nail technician will apply a white colored bonding element over the natural nailand a pink or neutral color over the nail bed thus creating a more natural appearing nail. Also known as American or French manicure. Solar nails areconsidered to be the next great product aside from natural nails, as it is applied directly to the natural nail and does not require the use of tips to create the natural fingernail tip. However, because the solar nail is buffed and shined, thistype of artificial nail is generally not painted and, as with tip overlays, the solar nail product will need to be ';filled'; every two weeks.
